Essay 1: The Negotiation Table

These chairs are the authentic chairs on which Li Hung-chang () and Ito Hirobumi () sat during March and April 1895 in Shunpanro hotel, to bargain on the treaty terms which came to be known as the Treaty of Shimonoseki. The chairs were properties of the royal palace of Japan.
